- Oh crikey riveting the first skin !
The
day started with building two V jigs to hold the stabilizer in an
upright position when bucking the skin rivets. One of the
last pictures below shows them in action !
The central tip rib is the first component to be riveted to the
skin. I didn't take a picture of this but they went in a
treat....oh after I drilled out 6 rivets cause I had put the tip
rib in the wrong way round. Slightly embarrassing !!
Thankfully the rivets drilled out without hitch or elongated
holes.
The
next jobs are too cleco everything together so that the middle rib
in the centre of the skin can be blind riveted into place. I
have not had to do any of these before, but they went in a treat.
The picture below is rubbish though ! The end rib comes next
and that is solid riveted to the front spar.

After
a cup of coffee it was time to move onto the skin for real and
buck the centre section and all along the front spar. We
only had time enough today to do one side. I am really
pleased with how they are looking.
